Week 2: CST 300 Learning Journal
Part 1
When it comes to staying actively engaged in studying, my strongest areas are asking questions, reading the text, finding the main idea and supporting details, and reviewing my past notes. Asking questions enables the reader to better retain and remember certain details from what is read. Reviewing past notes ensures that I remember and reinforces my knowledge. A few areas I feel the need to work on are reciting, penmanship, and study habits. Being able to recite important information every so often will improve memory and build a better connection to details. More legible penmanship is important for organisation and readability. Having a scheduled study plan is essential to having consistent and functional study habits.
Part 2
Part 3
An important concept I learned is the Work Breakdown Structure. The idea of this is to take a large project and split it into several smaller projects, which allows for an easier overview of the problems and solutions at hand. The structure helps with identifying the problems and tasks that need to be completed. After the fact, a Gantt chart helps visualize progress and schedule. Using start and end dates along with the amount of time taking between each scheduled task, the Gantt chart and Work Breakdown Structure are used together to foster a more efficient process for the project.
Part 4
One type of presentation that caught my eye was the identification of brain tumors using a computer vision capstone project. The project was well done, and the presentation was perfect.
Part 5
I've learned quite a bit this week, from being able to properly schedule times to study and identifying areas I need to improve on within my academic life gives me some vision for what I need to prepare for in the future.
Hey Justin! I think for this next upcoming assignment, you should select a time frame for each part of the assignment rather than just a general "Worked on this." I think that this could help you hone in on every part of the assignment. You could spend 30min-1hr looking for sources and focusing on different sections of your essay. For example, for this next one you could spend some time researching each stakeholder and then set a time for brainstorming your own ideas for your personal stance. I think that this will also help you with reciting back the information. I like that you give yourself breaks too so you aren't burnt out with your other schoolwork!
